Microsoft have now officially released SP1 for Win7 and 2008 R2 to the public. A lot of companies i have worked with previously normally wait till the first service pack is released of a product before they decide to roll it out. SP1 includes a number of enhancements and bug fixes. Enhancements include:

Dynamic Memory for Hyper V – This feature changes the way that memory is allocated. Previously in Hyper-V is you allocated 1GB of memory to a VM, it would use up all of that 1GB. With this feature it will only use what the operating system requires, enabling you to host for VM’s on your hyper-v server

RemoteFX – This feature allows you to stream media rich sources on your virtualized desktop infrastructure, for examples videos.

Other features include:

• Enhancements to DirectAccess,
• Support for Managed Service Accounts in Branch office scenario’s,
• Increased volume of authentication traffic on domain controllers connected to high-latency networks, Enhancements to failover clustering with storage,

There are a few problems though. The current version of the RSAT tools will not install on Windows 7 SP1 and also if you are running a beta version of SP1 you will have to remove it before you can upgrade to the RTM version. 

The whole uninstallation of the previous version and installation of the RTM version took me around 2 hours in total.
